Mediterranean Sea Holly
Brought into garden cultivation in 1731, this drought hardy sea holly has stood the test of time. The leaves have a silver-white mid-vein, giving the whole plant a green-grey look that combines well with other summer tough flowering perennials. Originally selected from the wild form growing on exposed sunny hillsides in the Pyrenees, this sea holly is well at home in the Australian summer garden, providing a cooling blue display when needed most. Cut back to the ground in late winter to encouage fresh new growth in spring and abundant flowering in early summer.
