Magnolia x soulangeana
One of the first flower-bearing trees to evolve and still the most memorable. Spectacular winter blossoms on bare branches herald an early spring. Clive Blazey recalls his mother’s tree with branches 10 metres across displaying 200-300 beautiful pink and white tulip-shaped flowers that the neighbourhood adored. Medium growth rate.
Plant in full sun or part shade, best grown in consistently moist, slightly acidic, fertile and free-draining soils. Frost tolerant once established.
