Kiwi Fruit Pollinator (male)

SOLD OUT Hayward is the most widely grown kiwi in the world because of it's superlative flavour and large fruit. A highly productive and vigorous climbing plant, position near a strong trellis or structure for support. Available as both male and female plants, make sure you plant a mate with this attractive climber because you need both sexes to produce the delicious fruit. Expect fruit in 3-5 years from planting, with yields increasing as the plants mature. Here's the perfect partner for your 'Hayward' female and your Kiwiberries. Simply plant them next to each other and they will reward you with loads of plump juicy fruit. One male will pollinate up to seven females.

How to grow

Large climbing plants, kiwi fruit need a strong structure or support, and are capable of covering and entire wall or pergola. Dioecious (male or female) so at least one male plant is required to pollinate up to seven female plants. Plant in full sun about 1m apart in a soil enriched with aged manure and compost and a pH of 5-7. Fruiting on one year old growth, prune after harvest to maintain growth. Ideal harvest varies and can be difficult to determine - pick a couple of fruit at a time and cut them open. If the seeds are black, fruit should ripen off the vine. Fertilise in early spring and water regularly during spring and summer.
