Japanese Zelkova
The Japanese Zelkova matures into a large and stately tree with relatively small serrated mid-green leaves, creating a dense and effective canopy of shade for the whole backyard. Green-yellow flowers appear in spring and in autumn, the brilliant yellow leaves, with hues through orange and red, are a highlight. Its wood is valued in Japan for furniture and taiko drums, where it is also widely used as a street tree.
Full sun, prefers free-draining, fertile soil but adaptable to a wide range. Tolerates drought, wind and pollution once established.
