Fig 'Excel'
Large, rounded fruit that ripen with bright-yellow skin and sweet amber-pink flesh. A superior all-purpose fig with deliciously sweet honey flavoured flesh. Bred in California and selected for its high yields and cold tolerance. Able to withstand winter lows of minus 12 degrees Celsius, and no chill requirement for fruiting, this fig can grow in a range of climates from dry arid inland areas to the coastal sub-tropics. Self-pollinating.
A hardy, medium sized, fast growing fig suited to a range of climates from dry, arid inland areas to the coastal sub-tropics. One of our more cold tolerant varieties. Prefers free draining neutral soil, enriched with compost and slow release fertilise in a warm sunny position. Mulch well. Self-pollinating. Fruit is resistant to splitting. Supplementary watering during fruiting recommended.
