Euphorbia Amygdaloides Purpurea
Spreading by underground runners this purple wood spurge forms a neat low weed-smothering carpet that is easily contained. Dark purple foliage that contrasts well with its acid green flowers first appearing in spring and continuing through the summer. A low-maintenance ground cover, a living mulch that will tie together burgundy foliaged shrubs and flowers.
Plant in full sun, preferably in free-draining soil of moderate to low fertility but adaptable to a wide range of conditions. Extremely drought and heat tolerant, Euphorbias cope with coastal conditions and moderate frost. Occasional water over extended dry periods will improve plant performance. Prune off spent flower stalks and damaged foliage to ground level to allow for new growth once flowering ends. Always wear gloves and avoid the sap when cutting or handling to prevent irritation to the skin and eyes. Readily self-seeds.
