Eggplant 'Slim Jim'
Ornamental purple leaves and deep purple, cocktail-sized fruits that are ready to pick 13 weeks from transplant. Slice and grill on the BBQ, or dice up for a delicious ratatouille. Yields 2.4kg per plant.
Eggplants require more heat than tomatoes, but similsr conditions, and being slow growing, require a long, hot growing season. In frost free areas, eggplants can be treated as perennials, producing a few fruit for a few seasons. Their stiff branches will need staking in order to support the weight of the fruit. For maximum yield, pick the fruit as soon as it is ripe, when the skin is easily indented when light pressure is applied.
