Echium wildpretii

Echium wildpretii

A spectacular tower of dark pink flower emerges from a silver rosette during its second year. Another of the Canary Island Echiums, this one makes a real statement in our garden at Heronswood in spring. Needs well drained soil, and dies after flowering, but it is worth it for the show..

Echium wildpretii

Like something from a Dr Seuss book, tall spires of pink flowers dot the landscape creating a stunning display of pink towers with contrasting silver basal foliage. A biennial which flowers in the second year. A spectacular addition to the garden. Plant annually for a continual display.
How to grow

Grow in full sun. Suitable for sandy or impoverished soils, but also adaptable to a range of sites provided soil is free-draining. Drought, heat and coastal tolerant once established, protect young plants from frost. Do not over water, dislikes humidity. Remove spent flower-heads to maintain a compact shape, but do not prune too hard as plants don't regenerate from old wood.
