Echium 'Port Wine'
A beautiful, rich-pink cultivar that flowers en massee in spring with a hue that inspires a toast with a fine glass of red! Equally comfortable in a dry garden with soft-coloured, spring flowering perennials or hot border companions, with enough drama to stand alone as a spring garden feature. Prune off spent spires after flowering to enjoy this spectacular display year after year. A magnet for bees and butterflies, improving pollination of all your fruiting plants.
Full sun, suits sandy or impoverished soil but adaptable to a range of sites provided soil is free-draining . Drought, heat and coastal tolerant once established, protect young plants from frost. Do not over water, dislikes humidity. Remove spent flower-heads to maintain a compact shape, but do not prune too hard as plants don't regenerate from old wood.
