Cocktail Pear 'San Giovanni'
First mentioned in 1660, this heirloom pear from the south of Italy is one of the oldest pear varieties available. This is the first pear of the season, ripening in the second week of January in Melbourne. A small, round, cocktail pear, 'San Giovanni' can be eaten fresh or used in sweet dishes where the whole poached fruit are a summer delicacy. Pollinated by 'Faccia Rosa' and 'Corella' pears.
