Californian Tree Anenome
A rare evergreen shrub with large anemone-like pure white flowers with conspicuous yellow stamens, originating from the inland slopes of Sierra Nevada. A difficult one to propagate so numbers are limited. Once established, the Tree Anemone is a hardy plant that will thrive in our increasingly hot summers. In our gardens, our stock plants get little care and flower abundantly in late spring every year. Adding to its spectacular spring floral display, deep-green lance shaped foliage is attractive year-round, making a handsome hedge or garden feature.
Plant in full sun in free-draining soil, benefits from some shelter and afternoon shade in warmer climates with a layer of mulch. Lightly prune or pinch back after flowering to promote bushy growth and for older plants, rejuvenate by cutting back by one-third when flowering is finished. drought-tolerant once established, water if showing symptoms of dryness and fertilise annually in early spring.
