Blueberry 'Blue Rose'
Tall growing and extremely vigorous, this highbush blueberry is prolific and best suited to cooler climates. Ripen fruit on the bush for maximum sweetness. Suited to freezing as well as cooking and, of course, eating fresh. Self-pollinating.
Blueberries prefer an acidic soil with a pH of 4.5-5.5. Improve soils prior to planting with decomposed manure and compost. This is especially important in clay soils as blueberries prefer a free-draining soil high in organic matter. Check your pH and if you need to lower it further, try watering the soil with coffee or apply elemental sulphur. Plant in a sunny position protected from wind. Mulch with pine needles. Apply a complete fertiliser in spring. While tolerant of part shade, full sun is required for optimal fruiting.
