A productive crop with edible stems that are used in desserts, cordial and even its own sort of "champagne", rhubarb would have to be one of the most productive and easy to grow perennial food plants. Tolerant of total neglect, rhubarb will, however, abundantly repay any horticultural kindness, such as an annual application of compost and seasonal watering, with even more wonderfully versatile stems.
Rhubarb crowns are available from July whilst stock lasts.
