Artichoke

Artichokes are both edible and ornamental, finding themselves equally at home in both the ornamental and vegetable garden. Their structured leaves bring contrast to the garden, while the heart of their dramatic flowering heads are often heroed on antipasto platters and vegetarian pastas. A true Mediterranean delight and highly productive, the flower heads of globe artichokes are the edible delicacy, while its the root of the Jerusalem artichoke (actually a type of sunflower) that is harvested and cooked for its sweet, nutty crunch.
