Diggers pioneered the revival of heirlooms in Australia.
The Diggers Club has been instrumental in rescuing our culinary inheritance. Plant breeders convinced themselves that 'new equals improved', so the older standard varieties began to disappear as new hybrids took over. In contrast to these industrial hybrids, heirloom varieties are a gardener's inheritance and their stories can be traced back through the generations, with seeds saved and shared by families and friends.
